03 Mar Visit the Cheile Nerei – Beușnița National Park
If you are having a few sunny off-days available you might want to go and visit the Cheile Nerei – Beușnița National Park. Even though the elevation is quite low, at about 500 meters above sea level, you will have many hiking opportunities that are rewarding and fun for the whole family. For the mountain bike enthusiasts, we recommend visiting Ochiul Beiului Lake but for more options please read the full list below.
Best road to Cheile Nerei National Park
Highlights in Cheile Nerei National Park
- The longest gorge in Romania, a remarkable and approachable tourist route for you to enjoy.
- At the two extremes of the gorge you will find two karstic lakes, Ochiul Beiului which is renowned for its spectacular color and Lacul Dracului (Devil’s Lake), a unique karst phenomenon in our country.
- Three waterfalls that you should not miss: Beuşniţa, Văioaga and Bigăr.
Good to know
- Road: The access to the park is made via a paved road with visible markings along the path.
- Tax: To enter the park you need to pay an entrance fee of about 1 euro per person.
- Accommodation: You can choose from a multitude of place where to stay depending on the price and personal preference. You can also choose to sleep by tent in any clearing you find suitable as long as you leave the area as you have found it; some common places would be near Cantonul Damian, near Lacul Dracului or at Păstrăvărie where you have an organised camping place (Camping Valea Beiului). Some accommodation examples (some are closer or farther away from the park): Casa cu Roti – Sasca Română Village; Casa cu Platani – Ciclova Montană Village; Rocker’s Inn – Sasca Montană Village;
- Campfire: You can build a campfire only in special designated areas.
- Water sources: There are plenty small great springs in the area but during the summer, when temperatures are high, they tend to run dry and as such we recommend bringing your own supply.
Stuff to do
- The area is very generous in terms of tourism and sporting activities that include: speleology, canyoning, rappelling, rafting, zip lining, horseback riding, hiking and cycling.
- Talking about hiking the routes in this area are pretty easy with low altitude differences from the start to end of each track. For an overview of the hiking trails please consult this map. In this link you can find all official track with details, marking and time, but unfortunately the page is only in Romanian so you will need G Translator

Posted at 18:18h, 13 FebruaryHi. How do I get there by public transport? I am coming from Hateg.
Alex
Posted at 19:34h, 13 FebruaryHi,
As I can see you can only go as far as Oravita using public transportation. For this you will have to take the bus from Hateg to Resita (every working day at 07:35) and from Resita to Oravita (every working day from at 12:32). From Oravita you will have to hitch-hike as there are no buses or trains.
Have a great adventure!

Posted at 10:48h, 17 MayHello Rachel and Colin,
We haven't tried any accommodation in the area but I believe you can give it a shot on booking.com. Sasca Montana and Sasca Romana are two pretty close villages where you can look after accommodation. Here's one that looks nice from what I've saw: https://www.booking.com/hotel/ro/rocker-s-resort.ro.html?aid=373426;label=sasca-montana-WXoDCnZLLAjbx7bj3qcb2QS37292081099%3Apl%3Ata%3Ap1%3Ap2%3Aac%3Aap1t1%3Aneg%3Afi%3Atiaud-146342138710%3Akwd-81743659157%3Alp1011845%3Ali%3Adec%3Adm;sid=1527afc00091e992c01b5cdb2e630204
And here's a list on booking.com with accomodations in the area: https://www.booking.com/searchresults.ro.html?aid=373426;label=sasca-montana-WXoDCnZLLAjbx7bj3qcb2QS37292081099%3Apl%3Ata%3Ap1%3Ap2%3Aac%3Aap1t1%3Aneg%3Afi%3Atiaud-146342138710%3Akwd-81743659157%3Alp1011845%3Ali%3Adec%3Adm;sid=1527afc00091e992c01b5cdb2e630204;city=-1169560;class_interval=1;dest_id=-1169560;dest_type=city;dtdisc=0;group_adults=2;group_children=0;highlighted_hotels=426441;hp_sbox=1;inac=0;index_postcard=0;label_click=undef;mih=0;no_rooms=1;offset=0;postcard=0;qrhpp=ef6322d0f39d6ec563138e21b7b3fb74-city-0;room1=A%2CA;sb_price_type=total;search_selected=0;src=hotel;src_elem=sb;ss=sasca+romana;ss_all=0;ssb=empty;sshis=0;origin=search;srpos=1
