Long time no write. Lately there have been a lot of changes in our lives and we’ve been awfully silent on hereihike.com… sorry about that but it was for a noble reason. As some of you know already, both of us were born and raised in Romania in a flat area, painfully far from the mountains. We were thinking about changing our location and fortunately, we found the right place. Starting March 2020 we moved to Austria in a small town bordering Switzerland. If all goes well, we hope to stay here, in this paradise, forever.

It was a totally unexpected adventure and the change came so sudden that we still take time to digest it. We both face moments of questioning ourselves if all this is real or we are just wandering into a wild dream? But it is real and as beautiful as it can be.

Considering this, do expect in the future a lot of austrian hiking, climbing and mountain biking content. If you followed us on Instagram for sure you saw we’ve been exploring a lot. By now, many of you already picture bits and pieces of Austria. It is in fact one of the most visited European countries when it comes to mountaineering. Nevertheless, we can tell you for sure, there’s a breathtaking amount of places to discover here. We still have a lot of backlog content that we want to share with you so bare with us, we’ll get there as well.

We have every intention to get back to business and continue adding fresh new articles as soon as possible. Just to clear things out, we worked a lot to migrate the blog from blogger to wordpress and trust us…it was a tremendous work. Whoever tells you that it’s easy to migrate a blog…don’t listen to him. Basically we took article by article and reworked them – partly because the automatic migration is still not doing a perfect job and partly because we wanted to offer the reader a better user experience, easier to find information and we also worked a bit on SEO.

So what’s new?

New home made logo – designed and created by us.

There are endless options when we talk about WordPress blog templates and because of this we chose a pretty cool one. Check out the home page – we love it!

We worked on the upper menu that allows you to navigate more easily and find the content you are looking for. We have four main sections: Discover (includes all the articles split by destination), Hiking & Cycling (allows you to bring articles based on the destination, type or route difficulty) and Travel (which includes our travel tips and tricks, journals and city break ideas). Of course there’s also a search option where you can manually input keywords.

We updated the article’s backbone introducing more visual elements (hoover over the elements for the legend), a short visual strip including key data about the route, interactive GPS tracks and animated photo galleries.
