Visit Triglav National Park in Slovenia

Visit Triglav National Park in Slovenia

Come and meet Slovenia, one of my favorite countries! Not a big state, but most certainly a wonderful one. In fact it’s one of those places you instantly fall in love with and you simply can’t help it! And wait until you see and visit Triglav National Park (Triglavski Narodni Park) with all its highlights!

Triglavski Narodni Park is Slovenia’s one and only National Park and it got its name after the highest peak, Triglav 2865 m. One of the oldest national parks in Europe, officially declared in 1924, the 900 square km park opens the Eastern range of the Julien Alps and defines the very beginning of the wonderful and well known dolomites. The landscapes is oscillating between mild and fresh grasslands and sharp dolomite structure mountains. A mighty view for tourists fond of nature.

Best road to Triglav National Park

The Triglav National Park is situated in the North-West of Slovenia near the Border with Italy.

As Slovenia has excellent roads and all the country is very well organized in what regards tourist information, I can tell you that you won’t have any issues. Most of the people start the Slovenian adventure from Bled – lake and city.

hi! basic questions. 1- is it allowed to climb the Triglav peak by yourself? 2- is there campsites inside the park and along the trails or just huts and dorms? thanks, I am planning coming from Zagreb and make a 5 days trail in the park.

    Hi Joao,

Yes you are allowed to hike all by yourself, no guide is required. All you need is to pay close attention to the track as it gets really steep at some points. I also recommend to attempt the peak hike from Kredarica Chalet first thing in the morning to avoid the crowd.

The only campsite are outside the park, close to the entrance. Besides this only chalets and huts.

    All the best,
    Alex and Karina

Hi, we want to go this summer with our 1.5 year old. Can we stay in Bled and drive to the park daily to do smaller hikes? Thank you for your information!

    Hello,

I don't know how but we missed this comment. We hope our answer is not too late.
Yes, Bled is an excellent spot to stay and there are some easy hikes around. Don't miss the Vintgar Gorge and Savica Waterfall. Maybe spend a day on the lake renting a boat, there are plenty of things to do! Do also see our other articles about Slovenia to spot more places to camp and hiking options. Let us know if you have any other questions.

I love your choice of natural sights and photos!
One can as well stay in Soča valley and do 1-day hiking escapes to Triglav National Park as well. Bovec is just 5 min drive way from the park, whereas spectacular Trenta valley is in the park. Honestly Soča valley is just as stunning as Bled area, just feels like you're in proper Alps.
I am local in the area and here to help.

Enjoy Slovenia as much as I do! 😉
